The hotel has been built by Alois Hell, the tenant of the "Jagdschloß" in Kühtai. It was a bold project for this time and was mentioned in the local newspaper "Tiroler Volksbote" with the following words: "This man must have guts to challenge the emperor of the valley himself"
The "emperor of the valley" was our great-grandfather Johann Tobias Haid, tourism pioneer and owner of the "Posthotel Kassl"
The hotel has been constructed from the end of 1906 until 1908 in a span of only 1 1/2 years.
The picture to the right shows the construction workers at the topping-out ceremony
The architecture resembles the hotels of Meran, a town in Südtirol, of which Alois Hell was very fond of. Every time he returned from his visits to Meran people in Oetz used to say: "Now he is coming back with a new tower again."
The opening was again notified in the "Tiroler Volksboten": "Next sunday the new hotel of Alois Hell will open with music. The house is only primitivly finished as carcass, today the front door is still missing."
The first wife of Alois Hell was a descendant of "Hotel Drei Mohren" in Lermoos, also a hotel with towers and wood carving, therefore the name "Drei Mohren".
